Garment Care

Caring for your garment

A ReVibe garment is made by skilled Italian artisans using precious natural fibers coming from the finest sources on Earth. With a modest amount of care, your garment will serve you for years and may become something worth passing down to the next generation.

Wash by hand

Do not machine-wash, and do not send your garment to the dry cleaner unless necessary. Both cleaning methods are aggressive and can damage fine natural fibers. Fill a clean basin with cool to lukewarm water, no warmer than seventy degrees Fahrenheit or about thirty degrees Celsius. Add a small amount of gentle soap formulated for wool or cashmere. A mild baby shampoo will also do.

Turn the garment inside out. Submerge it fully, press gently to move water through the fibers, and let it rest for several minutes. Rinse in cool water until the water runs clear.

Do not wring

Wringing and twisting stretch the fibers and compromise the shape. Press the water out gently with your hands instead. Then lay the garment flat on a clean towel, roll the towel to absorb moisture, and unroll.

Dry flat, away from heat

Shape the garment on a fresh, dry towel and allow it to air-dry naturally. Never hang a wet knit. The weight of the water will pull it out of shape. Keep it away from radiators, direct sun, and tumble dryers.

Treat stains with patience

If you spill something, resist the urge to rub. Blot gently with a clean, dry cloth. For a stubborn stain, gently rub the affected area with a dry bar of mild soap before hand-washing as usual. For significant spills, follow the full hand-wash instructions above.

Steam rather than iron

Direct heat can flatten the loft of wool and cashmere and singe fine fibers. A handheld steamer held at a respectful distance is the kinder tool. If you must iron, use a clean pressing cloth between the iron and the garment. Set the iron to the wool setting with generous steam and keep it moving.

Store folded

Hanging a knit stretches the shoulders over time. Fold your garment and store it in a drawer or on a shelf. Cedar or lavender offers an effective natural defense against moths.

Let a sweater rest

Sweaters and knitwear need to rest from time to time in order to last. We recommend wearing your sweater or knit item only a couple of days in a row, then letting it recover for a day before the next wearing. This small rhythm extends its life considerably.

Pilling is natural

Fine natural fibers pill where they are rubbed, under the arms, across the back, along the sides. A cashmere comb or a sweater stone, used gently, will restore the surface.
